In the field of
healthcare, an ultrasound technician is also more commonly known as a diagnostic medical sonographer.
His job is to help doctors and other medical practitioners make accurate diagnosis of a patient’s
medical condition, with the help of an ultrasound machine. While ultrasonic technology is more
commonly used for pregnant women to check the status of their unborn child, it also plays an
important role in helping detect and treat many kinds of health problems and injuries. As with other
healthcare fields, this career is notably among those that are in demand and is expected to have
favorable job outlook in the next few years.
Ultrasound technicians are specialists in harnessing the power of sound waves in
order to take internal images of the different parts of the patient’s body. An ultrasound machine
makes this possible, and whatever images captured during the procedure are sent to doctors in order
to be analyzed and be used as data for making correct diagnosis. The ultrasound tech must have the
knowledge and skills in order to operate the ultrasonic machine properly and guide patients in

It is up to the ultrasound technician to make sure that patients have a good

A transducer is utilized by the

will also take measurements, make calculations, and evaluate the results that the doctors come up

good working condition.
In order to be a competent and proficient ultrasound technician, one will have
to undergo a formal training program. The most common route to this career is a 2-year Associate’s
Degree program, although a more comprehensive 4-year Bachelor’s Degree training can yield better
results. Also, an aspiring ultrasound tech must have good communication skills, be ready to work in
close contact with patients, be accurate, have good vision and excellent manual dexterity, and be
able to follow instructions carefully and make sound decisions whenever it is needed. Most
